The Mach-E is no more pleased with its name than the purists are.

Because Dieter doesn’t work for Ford.
Dieter was a senior designer at Audi from about 1994 through 2002. You might think a senior designer goes around with drafting pens in his pocket, and usually you’d be right, but Dieter didn’t carry any pens or pencils. All he carried was a battery-powered electric eraser. He’d walk through the design studio and stop at the drafting tables of the rank-and-file designers, rubbing his chin and looking at the latest drawings. After a couple of moments, the draftsman would stop and turn, and they’d have a little conversation.
Well, Herr Dieter, how do you like my newest design?
Schon, schon ! That is a nice piece of work! But if you don’t mind... (electric eraser goes “bzzt”) Your design didn’t really need that line. Now isn’t that better?
Um... ja, ja , it does look a bit cleaner at that.
And this crease... (“bzzt!”) and this chrome strip here... (“bzzt! bzzt!”) Now the handsome underlying form shows through, without all that unnecessary clutter.
Ah, OK, I guess you’re right...
Very good! Carry on!
All the car manufacturers these days need a Dieter.

Looks like it's got plenty of room in the back for all the Faygo you can drink.

My first thought was that it resembles an epic mustache.
